What are senior members?
Senior members are basically a community of site moderators. By becoming a senior member, you will gain access to the website’s Mod CP and the special Senior Member forum. You will also be able to perform certain site functions like editing profiles and moving and stickying threads.
Why do we have senior members?
PUNCHCATS is very community-driven, and so, rather than have a staff team, we instead ask that longtime, trustworthy members help out in running the site. Senior members accept new characters, judge one-on-one character spars and other undecided points of IC conflict, and keep relevant board information and announcements updated. These members know PUNCHCATS inside and out, and can be approached with questions or concerns. They may also contribute to PUNCHCATS by creating sitewide plots, contributing artwork, or even helping out with the StarClan and Nature accounts!
How many senior members are there at a time?
We don’t necessarily have a limit! Staff, senior members, and regular members may all nominate new senior members. If you would like to become a senior member, please apply (here). If you aren’t accepted, that’s not because we don’t value you as a member. We might just be overstaffed with senior members at the moment, and we’ll keep you in mind if we ever require more!
What can we do as senior members?
Senior members may:
▻ Act kindly and helpfully to all website members
▻ Greet new members and answer any questions they might have
▻ Delete obvious spam accounts and posts
▻ Accept new characters, and place their application threads in the correct sub-board to reflect this change
▻ Sticky relevant or otherwise important posts, and unsticky posts that are no longer relevant
▻ Create site-wide announcements in the update board, relevant to game events
▻ Keep updated logs of staff-required actions, like sorting new characters into the appropriate member groups, and giving out IC awards to deserving characters
▻ Assign strikes to members behaving inappropriately, and ban members that have accumulated three strikes
What can’t we do as senior members?
Senior members may not:
▻ Abuse their power!
▻ This includes using their moderation abilities to defile a member’s profile, posts, or other hard work; permanently deleting members’ threads without prior permission; blocking or banning members without prior permission; etc.
▻ Generally speaking, if they think their actions could result in hurt feelings, it’s not in keeping with their job description of being helpful and kind!
How does giving strikes work?
Hopefully this won’t ever come up as an issue! However, sometimes rules are broken, or IC disputes are taken out of the game. Therefore, senior members and staff members are here to make sure the website remains a good, kind, and fun environment for all members.
Senior members may only award one strike per member, and the strike may only be given for a clear violation of the site rules. Senior members must keep track of strikes given in their private forum. Three separate senior members must agree together that one member is worthy of a ban.
Some examples of strike-worthy offenses are:
▻Consistently saying hurtful things in the public chat or Discord channel
▻ Repeatedly making members uncomfortable with words or behavior
▻ Unnecessary rudeness to members following game-based conflict
However, senior members may ban a member immediately if it is discovered:
▻ They are using hateful slurs against other members
▻ They have posted sexually graphic material on the website, either OOC or within a post
▻ They are threatening other members with online or physical harm, or slandering them on other websites/chat clients
▻ They have lied about their age in order to be a member of PUNCHCATS
Can my senior member status be revoked?
Yes, if you go inactive, or if you break one of the rules of being a senior member. If you’re away for a long while, and lose your senior member status, you can always reapply!
